Dear Tracy:
Mr. W. C. Simkins (Physical Plant) has asked me to plead with you to honour the invoice which you recieved from Medland, the local mover. Actually, I am on your side, and I can well understand your indignation about such a high bill for a job in which you had to provide both the know-how and a considerable share in the moving devices. On the other hand, it seems an awful prospect to argue it out with this firm. If you can afford it, I should say, it might be easier to pay and have done with them. Our Physical Plant people apparently see no inadequacy in Medland's performance and they are worried about an impaired relationship with them for future jobs. I am sorry I did not know any reliable mover myself.
Now, after exactly one month of operating I should like to appreciate your design, which with its large volume capacity has opened the way for many new experiments. We have done some more calibrations and tried a thermal conductivity measurement on a 1" rock core with a central graphite heater and two radial thermocouple probes. I enclose a tentative interpretation of the calibration points obtained so far. Oil bleedings from the guide pins have been moderate. I shall soon place an order for the V anvil adaptors.
